Angst: Fic with emotionally heavy.
AU: Alternative Universe. Fic where characters are depicted in a situation different from the original one, as different ages or planets for example. A fic where Natsume couldn't see the youkai would be an AU.
Crack: Fic with absurd and funny content.
Crossover: It means that in this story you can find characters or other elements from other series.
Deathfic: Fic where a character dies. Sometimes this classification is omitted to avoid to spoil the content. On some websites, it's mandatory in any case.
Drabble: Very short fic, usually with no more than 100 words.
Fluff: Fic opposite to Angst. It contains soft scenes and feelings.
Gen: General. Usually no romance traits are present.
Lemon e Lime: Fic containing explicit sex, not necessarily Pwp (see later).
Multipart: Fic divided in more than one chapter.
Non-con: Non consensual. Usually, a character is forced into sexual activities against its will.
Ooc: Literally "Out of Character". In these fics, one or more characters are somehow modified by the fic's author, for example personality or behaviour etc.
Oneshot: Self conclusive fic.
Pov: "Point of View". The fic is written from the point of view of a specific character.
Pwp: "Porn without plot" otherwise "Plot? What plot?". Fic without a real plot: it's just a mean to describe a sex scene.
Violence: Contains some explicit violent practices, could it be phisical or mental ones.
Shounen ai: Contains homosexual relationships without explicit sex scenes.
Slash: Term mostly used in movies and tv series fandom, but now quite common. It refers to homosexual relationships. (Femslash is slash among female characters).
Songfic: Fiction written starting from a song lyric.
Yaoi: Contains homosexual relationships. Explicit sex scenes are very likely.

American rating system (MPAA) |
G: Suitable for everyone.
PG: Parental guidance. May contain some material parents might not like for their young children.
PG-13: Parental Guidance 13+ Parents urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers.
R: Restricted. It's recommended the presence of an adult person if the fic is read by someone under 17 years old.
NC-17: No Children Under 17 Admitted. Reading is prohibited to people under 17 years old.
X: Reading is prohibited to people under 18 years old.

G: General Audiences. Suitable for everyone.
PG-12: Parental Guidance Requested. Some material may be unsuitable for children under 12. Accompanying parent or adult guardian is desirable.
R15+: Restricted to mature audiences, 15 years and over. No one younger than 15 years old is admitted.

K: Suitable for everyone.
K+: Suitable for more mature childen, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes.
T: Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.
M: Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language.
